Dr. Raja Guha Thakurta is a Distinguished Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He studies the formation and evolution of galaxies.
He is a member of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) Board of Directors and has been an American Astronomical Society (AAS) Fellow since 2021. He was also a keynote speaker at the 247th AAS Meeting in early January 2026.
Dr. Guha Thakurta received a Sloan Fellowship in 1997 and a National Research Council of Canada’s Herzberg Memorial Prize and Fellowship in 2001. He received his PhD in Astrophysical Sciences from Princeton University in 1989.
