Andrew McIntosh, Eva Lymenstull, and Steven Vanhauwaert present a program of fantastical and dreamy early Romantic-era piano trios on period instruments, with an original 1825 Broadwood fortepiano. The Broadwood has a uniquely warm sound and character, perfectly matched to this repertoire, and is similar to one that was owned and cherished by Beethoven.
This is McIntosh’s (violin/viola faculty at CalArts and concertmaster of Tesserae) second appearance on the CSUN Chamber Series, after performing the complete Rosary Sonatas of Biber on the series two years ago, this time joined by Vanhauwaert (piano faculty at University of Utah), with whom he released the first period instrument recording of the violin sonatas of Joseph Boulogne, and Lymenstull (cellist with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and baroque cello faculty at University of Michigan). This concert marks the second time they are coming together to play piano trios with a romantic-era piano and gut strings, bringing the repertoire to life in a way that is rarely heard in the 21st century.
