A public meeting addressing the proposed $13.9 billion municipal budget was held Friday 4/25/25 in Van Nuys. A second meeting will be held in Los Angeles 4/28/25.

Listening To, Attending, and Providing Public Comment
The hearing will be broadcast live on Cable Television Channel 35 and on the internet
at https://clerk.lacity.org/calendar. The Committee will take public comment from
members of the public in-person only.

According to the Mayor's proposed budget document there are  34,320 authorized city staffing positions, of which  13,855 are law enforcement (sworn officers & civilian).  The proposed staffing is 32,342 of which 13,452 are law enforcement. However, that figure does not include 

  • Proprietary Departments
  • Commissioner position authorities
  • 2,887 resolution authorities in the 2024/2026 proposed budget
  • Department of Airports
  • Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System
  • Harbor Department
  • Department of Pensions
  • Department of Water and Power

Proposed $13.9 billion municipal budget for fiscal year 2025-26 includes:

  • 2,700 city positions
    • 1,647 employees to be laid off
      • 403 civilian support staff at the Los Angeles Police Department
      • 262 transportation employees
      • 130 at the Bureau of Street Services
      • 114 city planners
      • 159 sanitation workers.
    • 1,053 vacant positions will not be filled
  • Consolidation of four city departments
