According to the Mayor's proposed budget document there are 34,320 authorized city staffing positions, of which 13,855 are law enforcement (sworn officers & civilian). The proposed staffing is 32,342 of which 13,452 are law enforcement. However, that figure does not include
- Proprietary Departments
- Commissioner position authorities
- 2,887 resolution authorities in the 2024/2026 proposed budget
- Department of Airports
- Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System
- Harbor Department
- Department of Pensions
- Department of Water and Power
Proposed $13.9 billion municipal budget for fiscal year 2025-26 includes:
- 2,700 city positions
- 1,647 employees to be laid off
- 403 civilian support staff at the Los Angeles Police Department
- 262 transportation employees
- 130 at the Bureau of Street Services
- 114 city planners
- 159 sanitation workers.
- 1,053 vacant positions will not be filled
- 1,647 employees to be laid off
- Consolidation of four city departments
