In the Science, Technology, and Patents Department at Central Library we offer computerized searching of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Library users perform their own searches. Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask library staff for instructions on use. We also have collections in print and microfilm. During regular library hours, we provide some assistance by telephone at 213-228-7220. If you need help, submit a request through Book-A-Librarian

Patent Lawyers in the Library
Calling independent inventors! Do you have a new invention that you want to patent, a patent application that has recently been rejected, or a patent that is being infringed? Sign up for a half-hour pro bono consultation with a patent attorney.
Pre-registration is required to be considered for a pro bono consultation. Space is limited. Registrants will be contacted to confirm their session. In-person sessions will be scheduled at Central Library on the first Saturday of each month, 1 - 3 p.m. or virtual sessions (Google Meet or just telephone) may be scheduled every day (except Sundays) at 9 a.m.
This event was created as a part of the No Prior Art program series, celebrating invention and innovation. No Prior Art ran from September 2024 to May 2025 and resulted in 50+ programs across 22 participating branch locations. To learn more, please visit lapl.org/nopriorart.
