Vogue Meets Ebay and Estate Sales

A "Chic Women's Closet" estate sale in Woodland Hills will attract multi-generations who embrace resourcing from local Estate Sales rather than online with shipping charges.

Publicity images for an estate sale this weekend in Woodland Hills (Saturday-Sunday-Monday) depict "CHIC WOMEN'S CLOSET" reminded us how much a younger generation is now shopping at estate sales and even thrift stores. The sale by Mooradian Liquidations coaxes petite women (and even those who repurpose garments they cannot fit) to look:

Designer labels such as "Bebe, Halogen, Moda, French Connection, Maggy London, Coach, Guess, Armani Exchange, A.J. Bari, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Gay Giano, DKNY, Karen Millen, Voi e noi, Peserico, Aeropostale, Mari Lee, Betsy & Adam, Tahari, Nicole Miller, Loft, Cache, LuLu's, le chateau, Hugo Boss, Zara Trafaluc, Jones New York, Talbots, Georgiou, Guinevere, ABS, Diesel and more!"

Reinventing is key in fashion. The idea of repurposing or expanding a product use was utilized by Coco Chanel when she sourced, jersey knit material, at that time used only for men's underwear, for her women's dresses and fashions in 1920.

Vogue participates in the Ebay Live platform "The Vintage Market | Vogue".  The disclaimer "All products featured on Vogue are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links."
Upcoming on July 30th is an invitation to
"Join host Liana Satenstein to bid on Vogue's exclusive curation of must-have designer handbags. These are the bags to buy now and wear forever."

An article in March "Move Over Online Resale Sites—The Real Treasure Is Waiting at Estate Sales | Vogue" featured numerous pictures of items from local estate sales, such as Diamond, Handled, and unattributed Mooradian.  The group of four, included Zoey Goto, the author of the article,  Maggie Shannon the photographer, and two pros who helped navigate the numerous estate sales they visited on a weekend. The author then detailed their finds and observations on the increased popularity of gaining access to treasures from the previous generation(s).

All the important elements of an estate sale were identified

  • Early bird catches the worm - people arrive at sunrise
  • A sign-in sheet, allows a quick exit-and-return, before the sale opens, to grab a cuppa coffee
  • Variety of attendees "the gaggle of bargain hunters, professional pickers, and the just-plain-curious"
  • Google lens, search, and other online resources aid in you knowing the best value for the price
  • Behavior, respect, of shoppers and even sales agents
  • Many items are priced, with bright stickers
  • Los Angeles has the best sales in the west, and in fact some people drive in as far away as Vegas
  • Be aware of your environment "extreme hoarder’s house, where they handed out masks on entry because there were rats"
  • The take-away that's more than a tangible purchase "Really, it’s about the memories that live on through the things we find at estate sales.”
