- Liz D. Rios lugged a stack of books she planned to share with her women in ministry class at Nyack College in Manhattan. But the heavy, bulky load prompted her to alter her routine morning doughnut run. First, she decided, she would head to her office to drop off the books.

- Father Brian Jordan first laid eyes on the conspicuous object on Sept. 23, 2001, after celebrating Sunday Mass for the Ground Zero rescue and recovery crew.
For the next 13 years, Jordan served as the chief advocate and defender of the WTC Cross. - St. Paul’s Chapel, constructed in 1766, is the oldest church building in Manhattan. Located less than 100 yards from the World Trade Center site, the church became known as “The Little Chapel That Stood” after it survived the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11. It is widely believed the church was protected by a giant sycamore tree that was planted in St. Paul’s graveyard.
- Rev. Lyndon Harris pushed through smoke and ash toward St. Paul's Chapel, just blocks from the World Trade Center. He expected ruin. Instead, the historic chapel stood-scarred but intact-and soon became a sanctuary for exhausted, grieving recovery workers at Ground Zero.
