The daylong event gives students an opportunity to learn more about the Nov. 3 election, hear from candidates running for office and explore issues appearing on the California ballot. Voter registration will also be available.

The program begins at 9 a.m. with a presentation on several statewide propositions, followed throughout the morning and afternoon by appearances from candidates

Randall Winston  - Community College Board District 6

Adriana Cabrera - Community College Board District 9

Students will also take center stage, debating two measures on the November ballot: Proposition 40, which would impose a one-time tax on certain billionaires, and Proposition 39, which would establish new government-issued identification requirements for voting.

The day concludes with a CalMatters presentation on ballot initiatives and candidates for California Insurance Commissioner.

Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes or consider offering extra credit for students who attend. Free food will also be available.

Day of Politics is designed to give students an opportunity to hear different perspectives, learn about issues on the ballot and become more engaged in the electoral process.
