The moniker for the application of Title 42 was " Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy " It was set to expire this month but the states and municipalities most affected by the influx of people crossing the border, while ignoring any health inspection or criminal background check, appealed to the Supreme Court.
What complicates the process of Title 42 has more to do with what the Mexican government does with the people whom the U.S. rejects by land. Those who are arriving by air can easily be returned by air to their country of origin. What has not been addressed is the severe homeless issues, and the controversies concerning the delayed solutions, in Los Angeles.
An example is the closure of the Griffith Park pony ride & petting zoo. While media reports suggest it was the result was bad accounting, the reality that part of the park will soon have construction of camps/temporary housing for the homeless. No discussion has been made of the extreme fire risk of temporary housing adjacent to a park with 4310 acres of fire prone trees and vegetation, such as California oak trees, wild sage and manzanita.
Steve Weeks the owner of the Petting Zoo/pony ride made the announcement on the Facebook page: “It is with much sadness that I announce that Griffith Park Pony Rides will be ceasing operations December 21, 2022. I have received a letter from Los Angeles Recreation and Parks stating that our contract will not be renewed...After 74 years serving the children and parents of Los Angeles, this iconic institution will be closed forever by order of the city.”
