Background: In 2023, farmers from Bone Mountain Farm in West Bolton, Vermont, grew Long Pie Pumpkins and then harvested the seeds for High Mowing to sell. After the seeds were harvested, there were still hundreds of pounds of edible pumpkin flesh. So, Bone Mountain Farm partnered with community members to freeze and donate the pumpkin to the local school district. Students enjoyed baked goods made with locally grown pumpkins throughout the year.
The Long Pie Pumpkin seeds are now ready to be sold, and what better way to celebrate this creative seed-to-farm-to-school partnership than with a youth art contest? A percentage of each sale will be donated to support Vermont farm-to-school programs.
