NY Post After 223 Years Says "California, here we come!"

"California, here we come! We're bringing our famous, clever headlines & fearless, pithy, common-sense journalism to the West Coast!" NY Post Metro Edition suggests "always sunny here"!

Alexander Hamilton (yes that Hamilton!) founded America's oldest daily newspaper, the NY Post, in 1801. While it is not recorded if the British West Indies native ever visited the west coast, it will be his paper that will place his footprint in the community. "People sometimes attribute my success to my genius; all the genius I know anything about is hard work." Alexander Hamilton

The announcement article in the New York Post detailed the new publication would be headquartered in Los Angeles and....

  • Feature a robust staff of editors, reporters and photographers
  • Dedicated to covering news, entertainment, politics, culture, sports and business — all with a distinctly California perspective
  • Supported by the team in New York providing national and international news

Start the presses! New York Post will expand to LA with launch of The California Post

Nick Papps is the California editor in chief. The Los Angeles based Papps was News Corp Australia’s West Coast correspondent for nearly three years.

The paper suggested reasons for the expansion included the metropolitan population of 13 million (LA County is 10 million + Orange County has 3.1 million), and the upcoming World Cup and Olympics. Although the latter two events, with limitations of relatable interest, would not stand alone in the merit or necessity to move westward. Perhaps the volatility of the L.A. Times ownership and management, also a 100+ year old enterprise, gave an opening for the Post to move into new territory.

A post of Facebook announced the expansion of New York Post to California, by borrowing the intro line from the 1924 Al Jolson's song, or 2005 Phantom Planet version.

"California, here we come! We're bringing our famous, clever headlines and fearless, pithy, common-sense journalism to the West Coast!"

A range of snarky comments on the 8:05 am Facebook post include:

"Sometimes. At other times, you're "news" reads like the National Inquirer. I imagine your readership ranges from the George Plimptons to the Agent Ks." from Brett F.

"Slop travels far" from Lucas....

"This is great! While woke weirdness is failing and being literally and rightfully- cancelled - The Post which covers all sides fairly is expanding!!!! (insert four thumbs up) Like Gutfeld on Fox late night. Real news and information is successful and propaganda media is failing." from John Z.

Elsewhere, on Linkedin, a recruiter posted a solicitation for staff positions "submit your resume and a cover letter that tells us why you're excited about this venture and what skills you’d bring to the Post."

"As we expand into California, we're on the lookout for talent across all levels and disciplines.

  • Reporters and editors (local, political, tech, sports, and more)
  • Writers, producers, and content creators
  • Visual thinkers and strategists in design, audience, and digital production

We’ll be posting new roles in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our Careers page and continue applying as more positions go live. (18) The California Post: Expression of Interest | New York Post | LinkedIn
