Puzzle Mania Spelling Bee Writing Contest - The New York Times

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY, open to legal residents of the 50 U.S./D.C. at least 18 years of age, begins at 9:00 a.m. ET on September 29, 2025, and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on October 5, 2025. Subject to Official Rules.

Here are the rules:

  • Pick seven letters of your choice for a Spelling Bee puzzle, designating one as the center letter. Then, craft a sentence using only words that can be created from those letters.
  • There are no restrictions on the kind of writing you can submit: It can be a poem, a phrase, a pun or anything else you can think of.

Some normal Spelling Bee rules apply:

  • The center letter must be included in every word.
  • Letters can be used more than once in a word.

Other normal Spelling Bee rules are changed:

  • Words shorter than four letters are allowed.
  • Contractions and informalities are allowed.
  • Proper nouns are allowed.
