A Shotspotter is a device from Sound Thinking which aids in locating the source for audible gun shots based on reports from the community.
The company is based in Fremont, and the device was created by Robert Showen in the 1990s. According to the company's website:

A similar mention of "listening" was alluded to in the case of a female pedestrian disappeared after being hit by a car in a street-take-over event this past April 13th, 2024. During a news conference announcing the $25,000 reward for information on her whereabouts and condition, LAPD Detective Moreno said “Some of our investigators … intercepted some chatter that would lead us to believe that there’s a slight chance that this girl might be deceased.
