The Bureau operates and maintains the Street Light Museum, a unique L.A. experience. The exhibit presents the history of street lighting in Los Angeles featuring early decade street lamps in their original glow and design up close. The Bureau is currently working on a series of renovations to enhance the visitor experience, including adding streetlights, designing a museum guide for visitors, and creating a web e-guide.
The Street Lighting Museum is accessible via scheduled monthly tour or by appointment, for additional information please contact Museum of Street Lights.
In celebration of the Bureau of Street Lighting's 100-year anniversary (1925-2025), the Bureau has created a new interactive web app that provides the location and historical context for the thousands of surviving historical and decorative streetlights in the City of Los Angeles. Learn the meaning of terms like "electroliers," "post-tops," "pendants," "davits," and more while exploring the important role that streetlights played in the growth and development of Los Angeles.
