The volume of rocks and dirt at the Topanga landslide has been estimated at about 9.2 million pounds! Interestingly is a similar massive series of landslides in Northern California along State Route 70 within the Feather River Canyon. Caltrans District 3 and Caltrans District 2 have been clearing rockslides or landslide every month since mid-January, which is typical for the area where rocks weighing up to 42 tons land on the road. The only difference is the volume of traffic coming through the area is not the same as Topanga Cyn. Caltrans battles with extreme rockslides along SR-70
The Topanga Community Center has an additional webpage which is not current but a tally of traffic through Topanga Canyon 2008-2013presented a comparison with estimates touted by the media today (30,000 commuters) TCB_Daily_Traffic_Count_Comparison-2008__2013.pdf (onetopanga.com)
