Reviewing FBI 2000 Study on Violence
A FBI study, in 2000 cited, the effect repeated portrayal of violence, by various mediums, has on children; including acting out on campus.
A summary of the report by an LA Times journalist suggested "At best, some critics suggested, the FBI report may represent a waste of time, chronicling trouble signs that are largely self-evident. At worst, they said, there is a risk that school officials would use it to vilify kids experiencing nothing more than awkward adolescence."
Perhaps it is the conclusion drawn, the closing paragraph of the news story which reveals why the need for an update, after 23 years, is not pursued by educators. The cause and prevention of violence now has a narrow solution, headlined as resolved only by legislation focused on gun laws.
"FBI officials refused to reveal the cost of the study. The 36-page report, titled “School Shooter: A Threat Assessment Perspective,” is available on the Internet at https://www.fbi.gov."
