The Holiday Spirit is in full effect! Some motorists are decorating their vehicles with multi-colored lights, making them a moving masterpiece, however it is NOT legal.
The festive light decorations can mimic an emergency vehicle and confuse motorists. Only emergency vehicles are authorized to display a steady burning red warning lamp visible from the front (25252 V.C.)
A vehicle can only display a white or amber light to the front. This law prevents motorists from being confused and clearly recognize an approaching emergency vehicle, which requires them to yield.
Both vehicles were displaying their festive light decorations while operating in the roadway, which got the attention of the Grinch (CHP). Both drivers were stopped and educated about the law.
*Multi-colored lights are legal in private property and parades*
