The infamous Kardashian family members are actually closely related to Armenians who escaped, before the genocide devasted their nation, and made a significant contribution to early Southern California. That family owned dairy farms in what is now Downey. The link is Demos Shakarian an American businessman of Armenian origin from Los Angeles who founded the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International. Currently CSUN has on display the personal documents, maps, photographs, and art of another prominent member of the Armenian community, Sara Chitjian. She a LAUSD teacher for 34 years, a constant advocate for ethnic and bi-lingual instruction district wide and persistently fought for the recognition of the Armenian culture and their experience of genocide.
"The Chitjian Collection is an in-depth and intimate portrait of endurance, renewal, and legacy as told through a family archive created by their daughter, “Sara” Chitjian, and her passion as an educator and first generation Armenian American."

April 22, 1915 is known as Red Sunday, and is commemorated as Genocide Remembrance Day by Armenians. Th8s year marks the 108th year since the genocide hss passed.
