Congressional Tele-Townhall Tonight for Western Half of SFV

Rep. Sherman has hosted 150+ Townhalls "in a variety of formats" over 26 years. There are PR's for 72 general public events, but 60% were e-appearances (16 prior & 28 post Covid).

Tonight, the West SFV Congressman presents a tele-townhall.  While listener tallies have been purported to be in the past 3000 -7000, there is no guarantee of the time or capacity for a listener to be heard.  Whether the transmission is full-duplex or half-duplex, allowing multiple participants to simultaneously ask the Congressman a question would be confusing - contrast an in-person event with the flavor and temperature of the audience palpable.

The date & telephone number for the townhall is provided via the townhall page on his website. The event starts at 7pm.  Number to Dial: (855) 920-0548

"Our Next Town Hall will take place on July 20th, 2023 - RSVP Here"

There is no requirement in the Constitution for a Congressman to meet, meet & greet with constituents. Although, the short two-year term does suggest the meet & greet aspect would be scheduled in order to accomplish a re-election.  The Constitution does stipulate an accountability of government to the citizens.  REDRESS.  That is articulated in the very noticeable FIRST Amendment!

"Congress shall make no law respecting...and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Cornell Law School details this petition & redress including this extraction of the full text:

"Furthermore, the right of petition has also expanded beyond what might be implied by the language of “a redress of grievances.”...The right extends to all departments of the government, including the “approach of citizens or groups of them to administrative agencies (which are both creatures of the legislature, and arms of the executive) and to courts, the third branch of Government.”
