A June 12th press-release, from In-n-Out, was obscured by media exaggerations of price increases. However, the facts the favorite food chain presented were for those with allergies:
"Beginning June 12th, our hamburger buns will contain a small amount of sesame flour (less than 2% of ingredients)."
However, it was not because sesame flour was added to their buns, but rather
"We source our hamburger buns from multiple bakeries that each use shared production areas. Following the FDA declaration of sesame as a major allergen, we have found that many bakeries in the industry are unable to ensure that buns baked in their facilities are sesame-free. Due to the potential for cross-contamination that exists in the bakery, many suppliers have added a minimal amount of sesame flour to their recipes."
The ironic effective date for wage increase, April 1st also known as April Fool's day, was part of the California legislators 2022 Fast Recovery Act.
The minimum wage did not increase from $16 an hour to $20 as a result of AB257 2022 which established a council to determine minimum wages but rather AB1228 Bill Text - AB-1228 Fast food restaurant industry: Fast Food Council: health, safety, employment, and minimum wage. (ca.gov)
Clarification of their price increases was addressed by Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick in a statement Thursday.
"We raised prices in California restaurants to accompany a raise given to the Associates at those locations....The starting wage for In-N-Out employees in California is $22 to $23 per hour, Warnick said."
The actual increase since April 1, for a Double-Double burger, fries and a drink is $0.25 to $0.50 depending on locations. With the total in Los Angeles County now $11.44. This is nowhere near the 25% increase in wages mandated by an unelected commission created by California legislators.
