This Is No April Fool's Day Prank...Griffith Observatory has just launched a surprise gift for everyone: A Minecraft version of Griffith Observatory. Yes, really!
Observatory staff developed this free downloadable map for Minecraft Java (on Windows, Mac, and Linux) to enable visitors to engage with a unique, virtual version of Griffith Observatory in first-person.
FEATURES:
Life-like art and architecture
Abridged educational exhibits
Scavenger hunt side-quest
Interactive elements
Surprises to reward the observer in everyone.
It is one of the few public buildings (and, we believe, the only ground-based observatory) to have official representation in the Minecraft universe. Go forth, observers!
How Do I Play the Griffith Observatory Minecraft Map?
While the Griffith Observatory Minecraft Map is free, Minecraft is not. New players (or their adult guardians) will need to purchase Minecraft Java & Bedrock: Standard Edition (for Windows, Mac, and Linux) and create or sign in to a Microsoft account in order to play the free map. If you already own Minecraft, simply follow the installation instructions to play the Griffith Observatory Minecraft Map.
