SAMO Fund Photo Competition — The Santa Monica Mountains Fund - Official NPS Partner

The photo competition includes three special assignments - you can use them for inspiration, or ignore them and submit your favorite work - we want to see them all.

Finalists will be exhibited to the public at the Visitor Center between Jan 15 - Feb 15, 2025

Submission

Submit up to five photos online. $12 per photo, or $50 for five photos.

Online submission will be open from September 1st, 2024 to October, 15th, 2024. But there are great moments to capture now across the mountains and whole recreation area!

Judging will take place after the competition closes and finalists will be notified. Winners will be announced at an event January 18th, 2025, after the judging period.

• All photos must be taken since the establishment of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in 1978 to present day. 
• They must be taken within the boundaries of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area: See Map of the area. 
• They can showcase either the mediterranean-type ecosystem within the Santa Monica Mountains, or the interaction of people and nature. 
• They can be landscape, seascape, events, flora or animal life. 
• Any subject is welcome, as long as it represents your view of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
• Photo size should not exceed 10MB IN TOTAL, please submit as a JPEG.
• Be aware that although non-native plants can be beautiful, they are harmful to our unique ecosystem. While the rules do not restrict photos with non-native elements, the judges may favor native subjects.
• Entries must be submitted by Midnight on October 15, 2024.
• The photographer must be at least 12 years old. The competition is open to the public as well as all Santa Monica Mountains park employees, partners and volunteers.

We want to see YOUR view of the mountains. Please, to be true to the ethos of the mountains, AI generated photos should not be entered.

If your photo is selected, you will be invited to display your image at the King Gillette Ranch: Jan 15 - Feb 15, 2025 (Opening Hours 9 am - 4 pm, Wed-Sun).

Winners will be announced at an event on SATURDAY JANUARY 18th 2025.
