Pounding Out the Hashtags: It's #FajitaDay

Image

Fajita's came to exist in 1930 in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The original fajitas were made with skirt steak, & the word fajita comes from the Spanish word for skirt, faja.

Instagram citations for #FajitaDay reveal an excellent assortment of recipes whereas over on Twitter it varies  #NationalFajitaDay #FajitaDay  but it is this tweet with an image that surpasses all the mundane clickbait references, too bad the restaurant is a long-way from the San Fernando Valley!

The two sisters who write Mexicali-Blue blog have an excellent article on The History Of The Fajita . They also include details of the origin of the popularity of tortilla's...again from Texas.

"Fajitas were created in Texas in the 1930s by Mexican ranch workers. The workers would grill beef or chicken on an open fire, then wrap it in a tortilla with onions and peppers."

Yes, whether you realized it or not it is National Fajita Day, but it should be noted that trending on social media does not solidify longevity of your popularity.  Consider the fact it has been less than seven months since the Superbowl was played, with social media hoopla trending for a week, but not much is mentioned today.  Contrast the longevity of Fajita's 93 years after they were originated, and the discussion by word-of-mouth over a meal with friends face-to-face!
