Image

LAFD Station 88 in Sherman Oaks symbolically received $4 million from the Community Project Fund via the House Appropriations Committee returning taxpayer funds for local projects.

A publicity photo with a simulated $3 million check was posted on the twitter account of the CA 32nd District Congressmen, as he stood in front of the Sherman Oaks LAFD #88.

Los Angeles Fire Department Station Renovations     Amount Secured: $3,000,000

The funding would be used to renovate fire stations in the San Fernando Valley and parts of the Westside of Los Angeles. Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, yet many fire stations are over 50 years old and are in need of renovations.

The process for selection of the Community Project Fund is as follows:

Members of Congress can only submit 15 requests to fund Community Projects

There is not supposed to be a guarantee which of the 15 will be selected for funding by the House Appropriations Committee.

  • HOWEVER, 12 of 15 requests were granted to the California Congressman of the 32nd district.
  • Congressman Sherman is working to secure additional federal funds for the Los Angeles Fire Department in fiscal year 2025.
  • These funds are provided through annual appropriations bills drafted by the House Committee on Appropriations.
  • The funds can finance various public projects and activities
    • Construction
    • Renovation of facilities
    • Program expansion
    • Planning and design initiatives.
  • Congress reinstated CPF funding in 2021 after a moratorium from 2011 to 2020
