Meth Labs...After Shut Down

Smaller "meth" labs in neighborhoods are uncovered by local law enforcement; contrast the larger production of pills and ingredients of which the last DEA "bust" was in 2022.

Airborne toxins from "meth" labs, which can linger in the air and adhere to surfaces long after the lab environment has ceased to operate. Those toxins include:

  • Ammonia
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Harmful fumes
  • Highly explosive chemical compounds

Health problems for law enforcement and those who unknowingly occupy a building/room which previously housed a methamphetamine lab include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Coughing
  • Nausea
  • Chemical burns
  • Curning in the eyes, nose, and throat 
  • Headaches
  • In some cases (especially small children) death 
  • Children are more susceptible to long term effects including
    • Respiratory tracts permanently damaged 
    • Potential harm to their nervous systems

Jul 2022:  DEA Los Angeles Field Division Makes Historic Seizure of Approximately 1 Million Fentanyl Pills The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Los Angeles Field Division High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Group 48, seized approximately 1 million fake pills containing fentanyl in Inglewood, Calif. earlier this month. This record-breaking bust is the largest seizure of fentanyl pills DEA has made in California.
