Chumash Indian Museum Seeks Museum Director

The Chumash Indian Museum in Thousand Oaks is seeking a part-time Museum Director to manage day to day operations consistent with the strategic goals and objectives of the Board of Directors. The Museum Director oversees staff providing visitor services operations, museum collections management and education programs, and takes a lead role in fundraising and grant development to grow organizational capacity.

The Museum Director shall have knowledge of working with indigenous collections and communities, and demonstrate an understanding of best museum standards, practices and ethics. Minimum qualifications are a B.A. in Anthropology, History, Museum Studies or related field and three years' experience working in a non-profit, tribal or museum organization. Applicants should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to be resourceful and multi-task. The position will work up to 30 hours per week, with potential for full-time as organizational capacity grows. Compensation starts at $35 per hour.

Approximately 70% of time is spent in a climate-controlled environment; other time may be spent on the Museum grounds, a wooded environment with walking/hiking trails
