Horrific Drowning of 4yr old Twins Brings Attention to "Pool Safely"

A LAFD alert Water Rescue 04/21/2023 INC#0640 | Los Angeles Fire Department (lafd.org) did not identify the house on Des Moines where a set of 4 year old twins were involved in a "water rescue".  

  There are no laws which require a homeowner to attend scheduled or annual pool safety classes; nor would that solve or prevent every incident. A homeowner cannot predict every situation or control every person who is involved with the use of a pool on the property.

However, the agency (LAFD) & people who rescue and provide medical care associated with pool incidents have joined with a national effort to prevent drownings, POOL SAFELY.  Last August 2022, they highlighted the POOL SAFELY resources. Firefighters Remind You to 'Pool Safely' | Los Angeles Fire Department (lafd.org)

Here's how you can help reduce child drownings and entrapments in swimming pools and spas.

1. Never leave a child unattended in or near water.

2. Teach children how to swim.

3. Teach children to stay away from drains.

4. Ensure all pools and spas - both in your backyard and any public pool you may visit - have compliant drain covers.

5. Install proper barriers, covers and alarms on and around your pool and spa.

6. Know how to perform CPR on children and adults.

7. Take the Pledge!

It was the network helicopter image which identified the distinctive pool abutting Tampa Avenue, making it easy to glean and identify the address of the home which had undergone significant construction since it was sold in 2013, including the installation of a PERMITTED pool in 2016.
