Thirty-Two Los Angeles Public Library locations had free sunglasses to view the August 2017 Solar Eclipse. Currently only Sylmar is listed for the October event.
Annular Solar Eclipse 2023 Time & Path | Exploratorium On October 14, 2023, an annular eclipse will be visible in the continental United States. In the morning, the moon will cover the face of the Sun, so that the Sun appears in the sky as a single ring of light, known as the ring of fire. The whole event will take about three hours, but annularity will only last about five minutes.

This Google Map, developed by Xavier Jubier, allows you to zoom into the eclipse path. Remember that the closer you are to the centerline (blue on the Google map) the longer annularity will last. Most towns in the US aren’t on the path. If you stay home, you’ll likely only see a partial eclipse.

However, there is a foundation which is providing the glasses to libraries based upon a local volunteer or staff member coordinating the request and distribution: SEAL: Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries – STAR Library Network (starnetlibraries.org)
With funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Space Science Institute, through its Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL) program is distributing five-million solar-viewing glasses to 10,000 libraries, plus providing information and activities to share with library patrons.
