DEA Operation Engage

Operation Engage was initiated Feb 2021, under the Biden Administration. DEA 360 Strategy was initiated in Nov 2015, under the Obama Administration and continued until 2021. 

The goals of Operation Engage is a national effort to:

• Identify the drugs that affect individuals and families in the designated areas.
• Identify evidence-informed strategies that best fit community needs.
• Identify and eliminate local drug threats in every field division.
• Support and contribute to local drug use prevention efforts.
• Bridge local public safety and public health efforts.
• Build on the success of DEA 360 and expand Operation Engage nationwide in 2022.

Currently the cities of Operation Engage are 

• Albuquerque (previously part of 360)
• Broward County
• DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia)
• Glendale
• Kalamazoo
• Kansas City
• Manchester
• New Orleans
• Philadelphia (previously part of 360)
• Southern California
• Spokane

The DEA 360 Strategy response to the heroin and prescription opioid epidemic was an innovative three-pronged approach:

1. Coordinated law enforcement action targeting all levels of drug trafficking organizations.
2. Engaging drug manufacturers, practitioners and pharmacists to increase awareness of the opioid epidemic and encourage responsible prescribing practices throughout the medical community
3. Community outreach and partnerships to equip and empower communities to fight the opioid epidemic. 

The 7 focus cities/hubs and date added to the DEA 360 Strategy were

• 2017: Charleston-Huntington Tri-County area of WV  & Albuquerque, N.M  
• 2016: Louisville-KY, Milwaukee-MI, St. Louis-MO, Manchester, NH
• 2015: Pittsburgh, PA

The DEA has the largest overseas presence of any U.S. law enforcement agency.  Domestically, the DEA is comprised of 

• 23 Field Divisions
  • Supporting the Divisions, the DEA also has 
    • Special Operations Division
    • 14 Laboratories
    • El Paso Intelligence Center
    • Aviation Division
• 57 District Offices
• 100 Resident Offices
• 58 Posts of Duty
• 92 foreign offices in 69 countries.
