The DEA's Operation Engage initial focus is 11 cities, including So. Calif., 4 more than the prior "360 Strategy". The focus is local drug use prevention & eliminating local drug threats.
Operation Engage was initiated Feb 2021, under the Biden Administration. DEA 360 Strategy was initiated in Nov 2015, under the Obama Administration and continued until 2021.
The DEA 360 Strategy response to the heroin and prescription opioid epidemic was an innovative three-pronged approach:
Coordinated law enforcement action targeting all levels of drug trafficking organizations.
Engaging drug manufacturers, practitioners and pharmacists to increase awareness of the opioid epidemic and encourage responsible prescribing practices throughout the medical community
Community outreach and partnerships to equip and empower communities to fight the opioid epidemic.
