All 20,855 precincts are considered as partially reporting as of 3/6/24, 4:24 p.m. because vote-by-mail, provisional, & other ballots continue to be processed & counted.

Initially it was reported 3,518,264 of California's 22,077,327 registered voters participated in the 2024 Primaries. It has been updated to 4,007,299 ballots cast (18%).

Contrast the 2020 primary with 20,660,465 registered voters & 9,687,076 ballots cast!

There were 22,077,327 registered voters during the 2024 Primaries. There were 3,518,264 ballots cast.

2020 Presidential Primary Election - March 3, 2020 :: California Secretary of State


There were 20,660,465 registered voters during the 2020 Primaries.

Democratic: 9,361,582 Republican: 4,937,986 Other: 1,179,106 No Party Pref: 5,181,791

There were 9,687,076 ballots cast which was a 46.89% turnout of total registered to vote. 

A total of 710,360 No Party Pref voters requested cross-over ballot requests to vote for the Presidential candidate of one of three parties allowing this. (AIP, Democratic, Libertarian)

There were 8,548,301 ballots cast which was 47.72% turnout of total registered to vote.
