Ramadan Begins March 10th

Muslim Ramadan holy days begin sundown on Sunday, March 10, & ends at sunrise on April 9; based on when the crescent moon is first spotted there are slight variations of time parameters.

Origins of Ramadan:

Tradition has it the book Muslims follow (and origins of the faith) the Holy Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad during what is now celebrated as Ramadan.  The fourth of five pillars of the Muslim tradition of faith is fasting.

Five Pillars of Islam — the core beliefs and practices - are: shahada, salah, zakat, sawm and hajj (declaration of faith, prayer, charity, fasting and pilgrimage).

Muhammad predicated what God said in the Qur’an including the intent of fasting being to help achieve taqwa, God consciousness.
