Continuation of Preliminary Hearing for Murder of Flores & Yanez Children

The People of the State of California vs. FLORES, ANGELA DAWN hearing has been continued to June 7th

Two entries were made, for the 5/23/24 status hearing of  The People of the State of California vs. FLORES, ANGELA DAWN, on the Los Angeles Superior Court - Criminal Court website. Both line items noted: "Held - Continued by People".  The new date is June 7th, 2024 in  Dept. - 122

May 7th, 2022, three children were shot and killed in West Hills. The mother was charged for the murder along with a 16-year-old reported to be her son also, as an accomplice. The mother of seven children in the initial period after their murder, is reported to have admitted murdering Natalie Flores, 12, Kevin Yanez, 10, and Nathan Yanez, 8.  Federico Yanez-Saldivar, the father of the twins Kevin and Nathan Yanez, lives out of state.

Flores has since pled not guilty.

The timeline:

  • May 7, 2022  
    • Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) received a 911 call around 11:45 p.m. for "disturbing the peace" 
    • LAPD officers summoned LAFD paramedics 
    • Angela Flores was hospitalized.
  • May 8, 2022 
    • LAPD, Topanga Division patrol officers received a radio call, around 7:40 a.m., to respond to a 911 call reporting an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect at a residence in the 22500 block of Victory Blvd. 
    • Officers found three juveniles unresponsive inside the location, ages ranging from 8 to 12 years old.
    • During the investigation, a neighbor told officers about the call from the prior night. 
    • Officers went to the hospital and detained Flores when her medical treatment was completed.
    • " During the subsequent investigation, Flores admitted to killing her children with the assistance of the 16-year-old subject"
    • Flores was being held on $6 million bail on three murder charges 

She asked Judge David Yaroslavsky for a delay at the May 22nd, 2022 hearing. Only the press was present at this initial hearing. 

Judge David Yaroslavsky is the son of former City Council member Zev Yaroslovsky and husband of newly elected City Council member Katy Young Yaroslavsky. His term ends in 2027. He was appointed in 2019 by Governor Brown David Yaroslavsky - Ballotpedia


Judge Yaroslavsky is currently in Dept. 277 - Sylmar Juvenile Court *

Judge Diego H. Edber is currently in Dept 122 - Van Nuys West Court

Up until March 17th 2024 her case was held in Dept 100 - Van Nuys West Court  -which according to the LA Court list is now Ricardo R. Ocampo at Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center downtown Los Angeles

Initial details from the LAPD press release indicate the unnamed 16 year old, was arrested and held for one count of 187(a) PC, Murder.  It was later detailed he was held without bail at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.  He pled not guilty in the May 25th 2022 hearing. Triple Homicide Arrests in West Hills NR22134ll - LAPD Online

"The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Flores with three counts of 187(a) PC, Murder. And has charged the 16-year-old subject with one count 602 WIC 187(a) PC, Murder."
