A horrific accident involving rip tides in Florida, took the lives of a Pennsylvania couple while on vacation with their six children. The fatality statistics from rip tides is actually significant.

According to the National Weather Service a Rip Current is:

A relatively small-scale surf-zone current moving away from the beach. Rip currents form as waves disperse along the beach causing water to become trapped between the beach and a sandbar or other underwater feature. The water converges into a narrow, river-like channel moving away from the shore at high speed.

  • Malibu Coast - Moderate rip current risk through Tuesday
  • Ventura Couty Beaches - Moderate rip current risk through Tuesday
  • Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast - Low rip current through Tuesday

* Low Risk - Life threatening rip currents are unlikely but still could occur.
* Moderate Risk - Life threatening rip currents are possible.
* High Risk - Life threatening rip currents are
