Trash pickup remains under normal schedule, but the Los Angeles City Sanitation Department offices are closed.
The day was designated, under the Obama administration in 2014, a Federal Commemorative Holiday which differs from a Federal Holiday when offices are closed.

Chávez Day by establishing a holiday to commemorate the birthday and legacy of civil rights and labor movement leader César E.
