Caesar Chavez Day Acknowledgements & Closures
Los Angeles City & County Agencies are closed for Caesar Chavez Day. First responder services are never shut down for holidays.
Trash pickup remains under normal schedule, but the Los Angeles City Sanitation Department offices are closed.
The day was designated, under the Obama administration in 2014, a Federal Commemorative Holiday which differs from a Federal Holiday when offices are closed.
"On March 26, 2017, the County of Los Angeles joined the federal government in celebrating César E. Chávez Day by establishing a holiday to commemorate the birthday and legacy of civil rights and labor movement leader César E. Chávez...In 2004, the State of California established an official holiday for César Chávez," 189673.pdf
