1.4MM three-year grant in support from the U.S. Department of Education for a civics education certificate program. "Roots of American Order" will be a weeklong seminar welcoming undergraduates from around the country to learn from the faculty on their Malibu campus. A related program for selected faculty will occur in Washington, DC for a summer program where people can learn how to take our applied history approach to public policy education.
The specific grant came out of a larger Dept. of Education program titled, "American History and Civics," which provided awards to a number of academic institutions and nonprofit organizations. SPP was the only MPP program to receive a grant.
Dr. Abbylin Sellers, said: "For over 25 years, the School of Public Policy has sought to provide training to budding policy makers through a deep understanding of the evolution and transmission of the American tradition of ordered liberty, constitutional rule, and the ongoing conversation that remains at the center of this tradition in the modern age.” Press release
Pete Peterson, Dean of Pepperdine's School of Public Policy expressed:
"I'm excited to see SPP recognized for our distinctive civics-centered approach to public policy education - one that combines rigorous quantitative coursework with classes focused on the "why" of public policy. For us, that means a commitment to freedom, and the defense of the American Project. Of course, this happens inside and outside the classroom."
