City Wide Organized Walk Out by LAUSD Students is Truancy

Image

A district wide protest, 2/7/26, may jeopardize students as truant during the protest or add to the sum if there are future absences of more than 30 minutes without a valid excuse.

There are three sections of the Education Code - Article 5 dealing with truancy and arrests, which may apply tomorrow during the district wide walkout of classes by students to support the local and national organizations protesting ICE. Whether the walk-out by students was encouraged, enlightened, or can be owned by teachers and staff will be up to parents and law enforcement to determine.

The walkout may jeopardize the students, during the rest of the year, because of the narrow parameters according to 48260(a) of the definition of truancy. Including the "or absent for more than a 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year,"

Education Code - EDC TITLE 2, DIVISION 4,  PART 27,  CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 5. Codes Display Text
