Prairie Delights Food Contest at Little House On the Prairie Festival
Tours of the Big Sky movie lot are sold out, but the 3-day event has many other events scheduled including:
Eligibility and Participation
The contest is open to Ventura County residents aged 18 and over for the Fruit Pies and Breads categories, while the Jams and Pickles categories welcome entrants from anywhere, provided they are 18 or older. Participants must present a government-issued ID at check-in.
Competition Categories and Schedule
- Fruit Pies, Breads: Scheduled for Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 PM in the Town Hall Tent.
- Jams, Pickles: Happening on Sunday, March 24 at 1:00 PM, also at the Town Hall Tent.
Submission Guidelines
Entries must be submitted between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on the competition day at the designated drop-off location. A typed recipe must accompany each entry, with a clear indication of potential allergens. To ensure a fair judging process, recipes should not include the contestant’s name.
What to Bring
- Pies should be whole and not require refrigeration.
- Breads should be submitted as a full, unsliced loaf.
- Jams and pickles must be in sealed jars.
- All items should be delivered in disposable containers, as they will not be returned.
Judging and Prizes
The contest will focus on flavor and visual appeal, with the top three winners in each category receiving awards. The decision of the judges will be final.
Safety and Consent
Adherence to food safety and hygiene is a must. Participants also agree to allow the use of their recipes in future publications, with proper credit given.
