Sony's 2023 "Missing" was produced during the 2020-2022 pandemic parameters. It's story is depicted in a real-interaction format, having the viewer see the sequence of events entirely through computer screens and smartphones. While "none of the film is actually screen-recorded — it’s all built manually out of layered assets (desktop background, Chrome windows, various apps, mouse, etc.), so in some scenes, we were juggling up to 40 layers of graphics." Therefore, it is the editing that created an illusion...the feel of seeing through current technology which one would utilize in a search for a missing family member.

According to "Decider" the film is fictional and a standalone sequel to the 2018 fictional film Searching, which was also a fictional story.
