The 1/29/25 L.A. City Council meeting began at 10am continued past 2pm
While the legislation to be voted on by the City Council included additional verbiage (3)
"that prohibit certain types of evictions as outlined in the Motion for tenants who attest to having experienced economic or medical hardship related to the January 2025 fires"
Shortly before 2pm Councilman Lee challenged the omission of facts:
- Why is it suggested this is not a broad rent control - when #3 clearly suggests otherwise
- Why this was rushed past committee it broadly affects the citizens
- Why were council members running around during this meeting rather than in a committee - where amendments could have been settled.

Item 15 CONSIDERATION OF MOTION (HERNANDEZ, SOTO-MARTINEZ – NAZARIAN), AMENDING MOTION (HERNANDEZ – SOTO-MARTINEZ), and COMMUNICATION FROM THE LOS ANGELES HOUSING DEPARTMENT (LAHD) relative to drafting ordinances that prohibit certain types of evictions as outlined in the Motion for tenants who attest to having experienced economic or medical hardship related to the January 2025 fires, implements a rent increase pause for all residential rental units and suspends Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 151.06(G) through January 31, 2026; authorizing the LAHD to execute a sole source contract with Partners in Diversity to hire temporary paralegals; and related matters.
