Two years ago, we wrote of local resources for fabric purchasing, five were independent fabric stores in and adjacent to the San Fernando Valley. Albeit, sewing and quilting enthusiasts can also go to the fabric market downtown Los Angeles and nearby but the distance and time to travel always makes a local store easier to patronize. Only three of those five remain in business now. This week marks the final closing sale of popular "Candy's Quiltworks" in Northridge. The cost for retailers to maintain a "brick-and-mortar" store continues to thwart the ability for consumers to buy and support local businesses.
