Arsonist Torches 100 Acres is Detained by Witnesses

An arson suspect's arrest is depicted on a social media video, showing the pursuit and subsequent handcuffing by LA County Sheriff, it is suggested the suspect is a transient. 

Monday, February 3, 2025  approximately 4:32 

Deputies responded to 24000 block of Woolsey Canyon Road in Chatsworth regarding a brush fire.

Upon arrival, deputies saw a group of witnesses detaining the suspect, he was in a prone position on the ground.

Witnesses told deputies:

  • They witnessed the suspect lighting a brush fire near Knapp Ranch Road and Woolsey Canyon Road. 
  • The suspect lit the fire and left the location. 
  • They followed in their vehicle. 
  • The suspect eventually surrendered, placing himself in the prone position.

The fire burned an approximately 100 square foot area of brush before being extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The suspect, Alejandro Martinez, 41,  was arrested for Arson (Violation 451 P.C.). His court date is February 5, 2025. The investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosive Unit.

A Social media video of the pursuit and subsequent handcuffing, by an LA County Sheriff officer, suggests the suspect is a transient.
