According to the national website:

With a Helen Keller legacy of life-changing services for the visually and hearing impaired, the association is also acclaimed for humanitarian support in areas such as the environment, diabetes, pediatric cancer, and eliminating hunger."

June 10th 1925 Helen Keller spoke to the Lions Club members ninth annual convention, in Cedar Point Ohio,  While they had already established  themselves early on with a focus on aiding those with vision needs "Her historic address was a rally cry that not only guided the course of Lions’ service over the past century — it established boldness as an enduring trait."  100 Years of Unstoppable Spirit - Lion Magazine

The Toluca Lake Lions Club has a dedicated page detailing the speech Helen Keller gave

"The American Foundation for the Blind is only four years old. It grew out of the imperative needs of the blind, and was called into existence by the sightless themselves"

and then she concluded

"The opportunity I bring to you, Lions, is this: To foster and sponsor the work of the American Foundation for the Blind. Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?"
