Council District 6 Special Election Candidate Filing Period Begins 12/5/22

A special election has been called as a result of the resignation of Nury Martinez, the President of the Los Angeles City Council, October 12, 2022. The resignation was the result of disparaging comments during an October 2021 meeting which were surreptitiously recorded and then brought to public attention a year later.  The legality and responsibility for the recording and distribution is under investigation.

Candidates desiring to appear on the April 4, 2023, L.A. City Council District 6 ballot must, in person at the City Clerk’s Election Division Office:

• File a Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate
• Submit a qualifying Nominating Petition

 It is recommended to make an appointment.

• Appointments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting on December 5, 2022, from
  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
• Candidates can schedule their appointments and obtain additional information by
  calling the Election Division during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Or by visiting the City Clerk's website at: clerk.lacity.org/election

Pursuant to Ordinance 187219 to enter City buildings: 

• Proof of either full COVID-19 Vaccination
• Or a negative COVID-19 test result conducted within the last 72 hours
• To slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division strongly recommends wearing a facemask to enter City
